  1. Post update

    Athletic 0-0 Barcelona

It’s a bit end to end at the moment. Barca have had 61.8% of the ball but aren’t doing loads with it. Our stats say they haven’t had a shot yet but Lionel Messi hit the bar a few minutes ago so not sure about that.

  2. Post update

    Athletic 0-0 Barcelona

Another Athletic chance, their sixth shot of the game as Yeray heads over, via a deflection, from a free-kick.

  3. HITS THE WOODWORK

    Athletic 0-0 Barcelona

Lionel Messi usually scores these. Messi plays in Nelson Semedo but Athletic keeper Iago Herrerin is off his line to touch the ball away from the left-back. The ball lands to Messi, who hits a first-time effort from 30 yards but it’s too high and hits the top of the crossbar.

  4. Post update

    Athletic 0-0 Barcelona

This would have been the ultimate showboat goal! The ball lands for Athletic attacking midfielder Raul Garcia, who flicks the ball into the air with his first touch and then hits a bicycle kick from near the penalty spot which Marc-Andre ter Stegen has to save.

  5. Post update

    Athletic 0-0 Barcelona

Lionel Messi, one of the best crossers in the world as well as everything else, whips in a fantastic ball to Luis Suarez, who throws himself at the ball but heads it just wide of the far stick.

  6. Post update

    Athletic 0-0 Barcelona

A nice passing move involving Sergi Roberto and Luis Suarez finds its way to Lionel Messi, who nutmegs a defender and wins a corner. If it wasn’t Messi, who doesn’t really do unnecessary showboating, I would be questioning whether he should have gone for goal instead of beating a defender.

  7. GREAT SAVE!

    Athletic 0-0 Barcelona

Only a brilliant save by Marc-Andre ter Stegen keeps Barcelona level. Athletic captain Markel Susaeta gets the ball just outside the box and shuffles it onto his left foot before sending a curler towards the top corner which Ter Stegen somehow gets an arm to to turn it around the post.

  8. Post update

    Athletic 0-0 Barcelona

Brilliant skill by Luis Suarez to control a pass on the halfway line and flick it past a defender. He spins to get the ball on the other side but runs into a red and white brick wall. He expects to get a free-kick but does not.

  9. Post update

    Athletic 0-0 Barcelona

Arturo Vidal passes a ball straight out of play under no pressure at all. It’s not been a great start for the ex-Juventus and Bayern Munich midfielder.

  10. Post update

    Athletic 0-0 Barcelona

First chance is to Athletic. Arturo Vidal gifts the ball to Yuri Berchiche, who had a loan spell at Cheltenham Town in 2009, with a terrible cross-field pass. The former Tottenham youngster surges forward into the box and hits an effort all the way across goal and wide.

  11. Post update

Benfica beat Nacional 10-0 this evening, becoming the first team to score 10 goals in a Portuguese Primeira Liga match since 1964-65 (when Benfica beat Seixal 11-3).

  12. Post update

    Athletic 0-0 Barcelona

Great play by Nelson Semedo down the left and he wins a corner as Yeray slides in to deny him. Jordi Alba is suspended today.

  13. Post update

    Athletic 0-0 Barcelona

Philippe Coutinho tries to find Sergi Roberto with a clever pass over the top but he overhits it and the ball goes out for a goal kick.

The Brazilian will probably be out of the team next week when Ousmane Dembele is fully fit again.

  14. Post update

    Athletic 0-0 Barcelona

Nelson Semedo, who is playing at left-back rather than on the right for Barcelona, goes forward but loses the ball when he tries a spin.

A long ball forward finds Athletic striker Inaki Williams but his first-time shot is well wide.

John McEnerney: Coutinho needs to shine big time tonight and jump ahead of Dembele in the pecking order. Vidal will add that extra bit of nastiness to the proceedings always a tough place to go is San Mames but it should be an away win.

  16. Post update

    Athletic 0-0 Barcelona

A bright start for Athletic but Sergio Busquets does well to win the ball off the hosts in the penalty area.

Inaki Williams almost wins a corner now but Gerard Pique heads it out for a throw-in.

  17. Post update

Athletic striker Inaki Williams was presented with the La Liga player of the month award before kick-off.

Usually a winger, the 24-year-old has been playing as a centre forward recently. He scored three league goals last month.

  18. KICK-OFF

    Athletic 0-0 Barcelona

We are under way in the Basque Country.

  19. Post update

Athletic Bilbao have climbed up the league since Gaizka Garitano replaced Eduardo Berizzo as manager in December.

The Basque side – who have never been relegated – were in the zone when he took over but are 14th after six wins in 11 games under Garitano.

Last Saturday’s 2-1 derby defeat by Real Sociedad was their first La Liga defeat since his arrival.

They are within three points of the top half… and the relegation zone.

  20. Post update

Barcelona, unbeaten in 10 league games, have the chance to go EIGHT points clear at the top of the La Liga table with victory today.

Real Madrid beat Atletico 3-1 in the capital derby yesterday to move into second place.

Barca are chasing the treble, drawing 1-1 with Real in the Copa del Rey semi-final first leg – and facing Lyon in the Champions League last 16 in nine days.
