Domestic violence for dowry, human trafficking and sexual abuse of women are some of the harsh and ugly realities in India. Many girls and women fall prey to such atrocities, but only a few get the opportunity to escape from the gruelling clutches of their captors and have a normal life again. One such brave girl, identified as Ayesha, shared her story in a gripping video about her struggles and it will wrench your heart.
Eighteen-year-old Ayesha of Mysore was married off to a man quite older to her, a resident of Andhra Pradesh. She was tortured by her in-laws and husband for dowry. They also aborted her child when they found out she was pregnant. The miseries did not just end there. In fact, one day her husband took her to a house claiming that there was a job waiting for her – only it was a brothel.
Ayesha’s story is narrated in a powerful video made by a Curley Street Media. The video clearly states it’s an enactment of true factual details.
In the video, she claims her husband Rajeev sold her for Rs 10,000. “Like you sell an animal, my husband had sold me” and never returned, she narrates in the video.
Sharing her horrific experience, she adds that every day five to six customers used to visit her and force her into sexual activities. When she denied, they used to tie her, hit her and rape her. She also highlighted how she tried to escape several times but never succeeded.
Admitting that she was angry at her parents, she says their backing could have saved her from the ordeal.
Finally, after two months, one of her customers empathised with her and asked how she ended by there. After he left, members of Justice and Care came and locked down the place and rescued her.
She now stays at their shelter home and has been learning boxing as self-defence. She also aspires to become an IPS officer one day and wants people to respect her. She shares how she enjoys this new life of hers and she feels safe and “have hope about the future”. She says she manages to forget her past and all the bad things when she fights, and it gives her strength and she feels good about herself.
