  1. Post update

    West Brom 0-1 Aston Villa

Yannick Bolasie shows some slick footwork and wins Villa a corner… But the Baggies looked like they didn’t want to tackle him!

  2. Post update

    West Brom 0-1 Aston Villa

    Garry Thompson

Ex-Aston Villa striker on BBC WM 95.6

You’ve got to get people closer. Darren Moore will be very, very unhappy about that.

  3. Post update

    West Brom 0-1 Aston Villa

That’s not the start the Baggies wanted whatsoever. Villa didn’t have to do anything special to break the deadlock.

  4. GOAL: West Brom 0-1 Aston Villa

    Anwar El Ghazi

First blood to Aston Villa! It’s a soft goal for the hosts to concede.

Anwar El Ghazi is given too much room to shoot on the edge of the area, and his shot takes two deflections, first off Jake Livermore and second off Ahmed Hegazi, with the latter totally deceiving the keeper.

I think the dubious goals panel might be looking at that one.

  5. CLOSE!

    West Brom 0-0 Aston Villa

Hello… Hello! Just wide from Matt Phillips! He strikes a beauty of a half-volley towards the bottom corner, but it flies narrowly wide.

But boy, did he catch it well!

  6. Post update

    West Brom 0-0 Aston Villa

Jack Grealish curls a super ball towards Tammy Abraham at the far post, but former Villa keeper Sam Johnstone gets out well to just about beat Abraham to the ball.

  7. Post update

    West Brom 0-0 Aston Villa

The visitors’ brightest move so far leads to a right-wing cross from Anwar El Ghazi, but Yannick Bolasie can’t quite get his head on it in the middle, as the hosts defend it well.

    Still 0-0.

  8. Post update

    West Brom 0-0 Aston Villa

A deep free-kick from the Baggies’ Matt Phillips is headed clear by Alan Hutton for Villa.

No chances to report just yet.

The Villa fans are making lots of noise. They’re in a confident mood – and for good reason.

Their side have won more points under Dean Smith this season in eight games than they did in 11 games under Steve Bruce.

    Turnaround.

  10. Post update

    West Brom 0-0 Aston Villa

It’s wet, windy and cold in the West Midlands tonight.

In the stands, there are loud, ironic cheers from the home fans as Villa’s John McGinn inadvertently lets the ball run out of play.

  11. ‘Atmosphere makes your fingers tingle’

    West Brom 0-0 Aston Villa

    Tony Brown

Former West Brom striker on BBC WM 95.6

It’s a brilliant atmosphere, you can cut it with a knife. It makes your fingers tingle. Let’s hope it’s a cracker.

  12. KICK-OFF

It’s a second game in five days for the Baggies after their 1-1 draw against Brentford on Monday. The Championship is a tough league and fixtures come thick and fast – especially around the festive period.

But who’s going to win this one tonight?

  15. Goals tonight, surely?

West Brom v Aston Villa (20:00 GMT)

We’ve got the Championship’s two highest-scoring teams in action this evening. West Brom have bagged 42 goals in their 20 matches, Villa have netted 39.

The 40 league games involving the duo this campaign have seen a staggering 139 goals scored!

    Cue a goalless draw…

  16. ‘Villa back four looks half decent’

    West Brom 0-0 Aston Villa

    Garry Thompson

Ex-Aston Villa striker on BBC WM 95.6

Apart from the odd change, Dean Smith is going to get the defence working as a unit, training together, and hopefully they’ll get results.

Against Middlesbrough they didn’t look like conceding.

At the minute that back four looks half decent.

  17. ‘Barnes a top, top player’

West Brom v Aston Villa (20:00 GMT)

    Tony Brown

Former West Brom striker on BBC WM 95.6

Harvey Barnes is our main threat. I think he can cause a real, real problem. He has tremendous pace, he’s got a great shot, he’s a top, top player.

If he goes back to Leicester we’ll be snookered.

Rights restrictions prevent us from streaming BBC local radio commentary from the Championship online, but if you live in the West Midlands area you can tune into BBC WM 95.6 for full coverage.

Baggies legend Tony ‘Bomber’ Brown and former Aston Villa forward Garry Thompson are your summarisers.

There will be snippets from both throughout the live text.

Meanwhile, for Darren Moore’s West Brom, they will be hoping for a better result than their draw against Brentford on Monday.

Despite playing the Bees off the park for much of the first half, they came away with just a point for their trouble.

What better way to get back on track and make their assault on the top of the Championship than with a win against their nearby rivals?

Kick-off is coming in around 15 minutes.

  20. Post update

    Dean Smith

Dean Smith. Villa fan, Villa boss. He will understand as much as anyone the significance of games against West Bromwich Albion.

His first taste of derby delight came against Second City rivals Birmingham 12 days ago. He passed that test with flying colours in a rip-roaring 4-2 win.

He’s never faced the Baggies before as a manager… but he might have ended up in the other dugout had he accepted an offer to take over there at the end of last season.
