Behind the media seats is where Johanna Konta’s coach Dimitri Zavialoff, who told BBC tennis correspondent Russell Fuller recently that he likes to give “full autonomy” to his player.

So that means we’ve not heard too much from him, even when she lost serve.

When Konta came to this end, she gave her box a stare of intent – that did the trick. Eight points on the bounce has put her in front on the scoreboard for the first time.

  2. Konta holds

    Konta 2-1 Lottner*

Good accuracy on Konta’s serve and she doesn’t give the German a sniff. She holds to love comfortably.

    Order restored.

  3. Konta breaks back

    *Konta 1-1 Lottner

A swift cross-court winner from Jo Ko and we’re all level again. Excellent work!

    Konta 0-1 Lottner*

Now it’s Konta’s turn to pile on the pressure. Three break points are hers after a few wayward forehands from Lottner.

  5. Joel Newnham: Shaky start for Johanna Konta. She needs some time to learn her opponent’s game.

  6. Lottner breaks

    Konta 0-1 Lottner*

Oh dear. Lottner needs only one. Konta is just struggling with those baseline rallies.

  7. Post update

    *Konta 0-0 Lottner

An ace to start. Nice. The 6″1 German then sends Konta scurrying with a few wide forehands and quickly brings up two break points as the Brit slumps a backhand into the net.

  11. What happened yesterday?

It was a busy day yesterday.

Wimbledon champion Angelique Kerber suffered a shock 6-4 6-2 defeat to world number 81 Anastasia Potapova.

But Roger Federer made a winning return to the French Open with a dominant first-round victory over Lorenzo Sonego.

The Swiss 20-time Grand Slam winner, playing at Roland Garros for the first time in four years, beat the Italian 6-2 6-4 6-4.

And Ukrainian ninth seed Elina Svitolina overcame a tricky first-round draw by beating seven-time Grand Slam champion Venus Williams in straight sets.

  12. British number one in good form

    Konta v Lottner

Johanna Konta is up against world number 147 Antonia Lottner from Germany, who was a qualifier for the main draw in Paris.

The 22-year-old has never won a Grand Slam match so Konta, seeded 26, is the resounding favourite.

Konta has had a very encouraging build-up on the clay surface too.

The British number one, who has gone out in the first round for four consecutive years, reached the final in Rome less than two weeks ago before losing to fourth seed Karolina Pliskova.

She beat two top 10 players on route to that final – Kiki Bertens (6) and Sloane Stephens (7), as well as Venus Williams.

Konta also reached the clay final in Monaco after guiding the British Fed Cup team to the World Group for the first time in 29 years.

  13. Kvitova withdraws with injury

Some sad news this morning as two-time Wimbledon champion and sixth seed Petra Kvitova has been forced to withdraw from the French Open with an arm injury.

“I’ve had pain in my left forearm for a few weeks and last night an MRI confirmed a grade-two tear,” she said.

“I’m truly sad not to be able to play here this year. It is a really tough decision to make.”
