  1. Post update

Real Madrid – missing injured captain Sergio Ramos at the back – are struggling with crosses and Javier Eraso heads a chance wide for the cucumbers.

  2. Post update

Dani Carvajal crosses to Luka Modric and the ball lands perfectly to the Croat for a volley. I’m expecting something special but he doesn’t make proper contact and it would have went out for a throw-in had Allan Nyom not kicked the ball off Marcelo to win a goal-kick for the hosts.

  3. Post update

This is a big chance for Leganes. A ball is played into the box and Dimitrios Siovas flicks it on to Martin Braithwaite, who heads wide from six yards out. It was a difficult header to be fair to the Middlesbrough loanee, slightly to his side.

  4. Post update

Isco concedes a free-kick for a foul on Allan Nyom. The home fans aren’t impressed by the fact he escapes a booking.

  5. Post update

Leganes have their first attack of the game and then Allan Nyom hits a cross-shot from 30 yards which is held by Keylor Navas.

Thibaut Courtois is still sidelined for Real.

  6. Post update

Corner to Real Madrid. Marco Asensio plays a one-two with Luka Modric but then the Spaniard’s deep cross is cleared.

  7. Post update

First chance and it’s to Real Madrid. Isco finds Marco Asensio on the edge of the box, he skips past Kenneth Omeruo but then his shot is far too weak and held by keeper Ivan Cuellar.

  8. Post update

Karim Benzema is Real’s only player to have appeared in all 32 La Liga matches this season – under three different managers.

He has scored six goals and assisted three in Real’s last five league games.

  9. Post update

Real Madrid, playing a 4-3-3, work the ball from left to right but Dani Carvajal’s cross is past everyone. It’s his first game in a month and a half.

Sulaimon Adelekan: I don’t think Gareth Bale will be at Real Madrid next season with Zidane in charge, the inevitable spending spree in the summer and the strained relationship with the fans.

  11. Post update

Real have won their last five La Liga matches on a Monday, since a 5-0 defeat at Barcelona on 29 November 2010.

Their last league game on a Monday was a 2-0 home win against Cordoba on 25 August 2014.

  12. KICK-OFF

    Leganes 0-0 Real Madrid

We are under way on the edge of Madrid.

  13. Post update

Zinedine Zidane has basically made up the target of finishing second, even though there is no major benefit.

“Although it’s not easy, we have to show our motivation, not to win any silverware, but to finish second because that can alter a lot of things.

“We’ve got to try and finish as high up as possible and ahead of the side currently in second, who are Atletico, that’s our aim,” he said.

Real have been knocked out of all the cups and sit 14 points off top – and have a nine-point cushion in the Champions League places.

  15. Team news

Leganes v Real Madrid (20:00 BST)

Gareth Bale is dropped in one of three Real Madrid changes.

Dani Carvajal returns at right-back after six weeks out inured, with Marcelo coming on on the other side and Casemiro starting in midfield.

Sergio Reguilon and Alvaro Odriozola are left out.

  16. Post update

The big dogs in La Liga usually don’t play on these Monday night fixtures – especially in Champions League weeks.

In 2019, Levante, Leganes, Rayo Vallecano, Alaves, Espanyol, Real Sociedad and Athletic Bilbao have all played two Monday games. Celta Vigo, Eibar, Huesca and Girona have played once each.

But tonight Real Madrid, out of the title race and all the cups, make the short trip to Leganes.

“Thursday Nights, Channel 5,” used to be the chant by English football fans laughing at bigger teams who would play in the Europa League.

I wonder if the Spanish have something similar for Monday night La Liga games.
