An Adelaide woman is fighting for her life in hospital after a hit-and-run crash in the city’s northern suburbs early on Christmas morning.
Police have not been able to work out who she is to let her family know about her condition.
Emergency services were called to Craigmore Road at Blakeview — near the intersection with Park Lake Boulevard — about 3:15am after reports a woman was on the road with serious injuries.
Police believe she was hit by a car which left the scene.
The woman was taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital and SA Police Inspector Amit Sareen said her injuries were considered life threatening.
She was not found with any ID but is believed to be in her 20s.
“We feel for the family and it is a tragic incident,” Inspector Sareen said.
“We have not been able to establish the identity of the female, but her family will get the news about this serious incident.
“This serves as a timely reminder for not only drivers but pedestrians and cyclists too to be extra careful on the road.
“Now with summer holidays and hot weather, there’ll be a lot more people on the road.”
He said the woman may have been lying on the road when she was hit, and it was also possible she knew the culprit, but also that it was an accident.
“The driver may not have been aware that he or she hit someone — hence we’re urging anyone who has got any information to come forward to police to solve this puzzle,” he said.
He said no witnesses had yet come forward and there was no debris from the car on the road.
